EDGE Welcomes Former Pros as Pitching Instructors

The EDGE is excited to announce new pitching instructors Nick Tepesch and Jake Sylvester. Both instructors bring experience from the pros to Premier Baseball and The EDGE.

“Adding these guys as instructors is a big accomplishment for The EDGE. They bring valuable experience that they can share with our developing athletes,” said Bob Zimmermann, head instructor for Premier Baseball. “I’m excited for them to join our family.”

Nick Tepesch

Pitching Instructor - Nick TepeschTepesch, a 2007 Blue Springs South graduate, pitched 2 seasons the with University of Missouri Tigers before being drafted by the Texas Rangers in 2010. He made his big-league debut against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2013. An injury sidelined him in 2015 but he quickly returned to the majors, pitching for the Dodgers, Twins, and Blue Jays. He retired from professional baseball in 2017.

“I’m really excited to join Premier Baseball. After spending years in the majors, I’m ready to give back to developing players,” said Tepesch. “I’m eager to work with players of all ages and abilities.”

Jake Sylvester

Pitching Instructor - Jacob SylvesterJake Sylvester joins The EDGE after pitching for the Johnson City Cardinals, a minor league affiliate for the Saint Louis Cardinals. Sylvester started working with Premier while playing baseball for Olathe Northwest. After graduating from ONW in 2014, Sylvester played 2 seasons with Iowa Western Community College. At IWCC, he helped the Reivers to back-to-back 50-win seasons and an appearance in the Juco World Series Final Four in 2016. He then pitched for California State Northridge and MidAmerica Nazarene University before joining the St. Louis Cardinals organization as a pitcher for the Johnson City Cardinals.

“Bob helped me to achieve my goal of playing professional baseball,” said, Sylvester. “Now, I’m excited to join the Premier family as an instructor, and I look forward to helping the next player reach their dream.”

Sylvester is available for lessons on Mondays and Wednesdays. Pitching lessons with Jake Sylvester may be scheduled here.
